Massive Fire Breaks Out in Iran Market
The conflagration ignited in western Tehran's Jannat Abad district, with authorities receiving the initial alarm at 09:55 a.m. local time (0625 GMT), according to media, Iran's official news agency. Emergency services mobilized firefighting units from five separate stations to battle the flames, media reported, citing Tehran Fire Department spokesman Jalal Maleki.
Investigators have not yet determined what sparked the devastating fire, which originated within a shed spanning approximately 2,000 square meters, Maleki stated.
Medical teams scrambled to the scene as casualties mounted. Shervin Tabrizi, spokesman for Tehran's emergency medical services organization, confirmed that four ambulances and an ambulance bus were deployed to transport the injured to medical facilities.
The incident marks the latest emergency to strike the Iranian capital, where densely packed commercial areas face elevated fire risks.
