Explosion at Syrian mosque result in death of eight fatalities
The head of emergency and ambulance services indicated that “the toll is not final and is likely to rise,” signaling the possibility of additional casualties.
Interior officials stated that the “terrorist blast” struck the Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib Mosque, located on Al-Khodari Street in the Wadi al-Dhahab district.
Following the incident, security forces were swiftly deployed to the scene, where they sealed off the surrounding area to prevent further risks and to facilitate response efforts.
Specialized investigative teams have since launched an inquiry into the attack, gathering evidence with the aim of identifying and apprehending those responsible.
No organization immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing.
Authorities noted that the country’s new leadership is intensifying security measures nationwide while pursuing elements linked to the former government, which it accuses of fueling instability.
Syria’s longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad, who governed for nearly a quarter of a century, fled to Russia, bringing an end to decades of Ba'ath Party rule that began in 1963. A transitional government was established in January under President Ahmad al-Sharaa.
